Beliefs and approach: I work in collaborative partnership with individuals who are seeking to regain or retain industry and autonomy in their lives, to identify and achieve their goals, and to improve their relationships with themselves and others. I fundamentally believe that healing happens in relationship and that authenticity, curiosity, empathy, and compassion are the cornerstones of building healthy relationships. My care provision is intentional, trauma informed, and patient centered. I operate from the premise that clients are the experts in their own lives and that recovery is possible for everyone. I have an expert knowledge of psychotropic medications and take a conservative approach to prescribing that limits side effects and works to identify the lowest possible therapeutic doses. I provide supportive psychotherapy within a bio-psycho-social and holistic framework and believe that lifestyle and community are primary sources of  wellness. I believe in a collaborative approach to mental health care provision and partner with clients in identifying presenting problems and in finding creative and individually focused solutions that are realistic and sustainable. Everyone is unique. I have experience in treating difficult symptoms related to personality, mood, thoughts, trauma, anxiety, OCD, neurocognition, and autism, as well as working with people in recovery. I work with adults of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

Experience: Dr. Chipman has been working with individuals in the mental health field for 10+ years. Using clinically tested and evidence-based interventions he has worked with many clients from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and has taught and supervised psychiatric nursing students in his faculty position with Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU). Prior to clinical practice and academia, he coordinated Behavioral Health Quality Management for Providence Health and Services in Oregon, serving as chair of the Behavioral Health Quality Council and Community Partnership Council.

At this time, Dr. Chipman is accepting new clients on a limited basis.
